Doggie Meetup at Great Falls National Park

The Herndon/Reston Active Dogs Meetup got together yesterday morning at Great Falls National Park. We are very lucky to have this beautiful place that welcomes doggies so very close to us!  We went on a hike along the river trail.  At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge.

It was a gorgeous day and weather was in the high 50's - low 60's.  Leaves on the trees are just starting to turn colors here in Virginia.  The other side of the river in these pictures is Maryland.

The river was flowing quite swiftly yesterday.

This is one of our newest members, Syber, the 3 month old Siberian Husky.  Isn't she cute?  Her brother, Snowcrash, brought her!  Boy, does she have energy.....

The park has many trails, some are flat, others have lots of rocks to climb on.  I love to climb. Hu-mom kept my leash on so I couldn't climb as far as I really wanted.

This is one spot where I wanted to climb down more, but she won't let me!

Back down to the bottom of the rocks.

Lots of good smells going on!

What's over there?

After walking/hiking for about an hour, it was time to head back to the visitor's center.

One of the overlooks to the Potomac River.

If you look closely and see the red spot--it is a guy who exited the river, climbed up the rocks carrying his kayak on his head.  He went over the rocks to the other side and then got back into the river again.

It was a great place to hike. I could have gone on a lot longer!  Hu-mom said we might go back today and take Mack.  She thinks he'll do okay with the hiking. He might even climb rocks, too!  Hu-mom said it was really hard to hike on the rocks and take pictures at the same time while holding onto the leash.  She didn't even get any shots of the other doggies or people.  The shots she took were when we stopped for a water break along the way or were stopped at an overlook.  WELL, I can't wait to go back!!!!

Hi Minnie!! Looks like you had quite an eventful hike! Oh that national park sure is beautiful! I enjoy going for hikes as well, but sometimes my health (and moms too) doesn't allow for it. We do get to go on smaller hikes which we enjoy too! Does Mack like to hike as well?

Hugs & smoochies!! XOXO
