Is it Time to Eat Yet?

Hu-mom here today.
There is a certain routine at the Cooper household that starts around 3PM almost everyday.  All of a sudden, all the napping 4 leggers start millling around.  If anyone happens to go into the kitchen, they do not go alone.  They will have an audience.

Since I work at home in the afternoons during the week, you can find me upstairs in our home office, ususally working away at my computer. Around 3, the kitties will start their routine of sitting either on my key board or on my hand/mouse.  Minnie appears, usually with her mini-tennis ball wanting to play.  Mack moves from his doggie bed in the office to under my feet. This will continue until about 4 when I finish work.  If I make a move toward the stairs, everyone will rush down ahead of me. Out of experience, I know to stop at the top and wait for everyone else to go down first.  And as stated above, heaven forbid if someone enters the kitchen.

When Hu-dad gets home from work around 4:30 or so, I usually go back to my computer for a last minute email check.  Everyone follows.  Minnie knows it getting closer to chow time, and begins her conversation.

Check out this video:

The magic hour is usually between 5:15 and 5:30.  They can't wait a minute  more, you know, they are starving to death.

Do your doggies have this conversation with you each day?

Our pups are creatures of habit too. If one of us is not home on time they are pacing and whining until we return

Isabelle is the chatty one here. Dinner is right after mom gets home from work and a quick potty break. On non school nights, that's around 5:30. On the weekends, Isabelle can be out cold, snoring away, but at 5:30, she is immediately awake. If mom happens to be napping on the couch (favorite pastime on the weekends) and isn't up exactly at 5:30, Isabelle will watch very closely until mom gets up. And don't even think about fooling Isabelle! If she sees mom open her eyes, she comes over to the couch and snorts loudly.

Once mom gets up, that's when the conversation begins. One day, mom will find someone to videotape this entertainment. It's hilarious! Just like Minnie!

Gracie plops down on the dining room rug and gives me the sad, hungry, deprived puppy look and waits patiently. When she heard Minnie's video she kept tilting her head, trying to understand what she was saying. The video was so cute!!!

About an hour before dinner time, I keep going into the kitchen and stare at Mom. If she makes a move, I'm turn into her shadow. When that doesn't work, I pace around, but still within site of Mom. She laughs and calls it "The native is getting restless" like the animals do in the zoo when it's feeding time.

Hugs,
Suki

Have you noticed that if you change the time to earlier, that they'll still get after you an hour early anyway? lol There's no winning that battle!

hu-dad here - I thought Minnie was trying to tell us that Timmy fell down into the well and that we needed to bring a ladder or a rope :)

What a sweet video. Gus does the same thing as Minnie, stops and makes sure we're really following him down the steps. Hearing their pawsteps on your floors is so cute!

P.S. Love how Mack moves from one resting place to another...smart dogger. :)

Gosh, Minnie - you ARE a talkative doggie! I don't think I've barked so much in my whole life as you have in a few minutes - hee! hee!

Nope - we're really quiet in our household as I hardly ever bark or make any other noise. Just too much effort. But I do stand around, eyeing hopefully and drooling puddles on the floor. I find drool & slobber very effective in producing results too, despite being done in silence! :-)

Oh - no - wait. I take that back. We WERE a quiet household. But since the arrival of Muesli - boy, does that kitten MEOW like there's no tomorrow!

Slobbers,
