Some People Shouldn't Be Pet Owners

Hu-mom ranting tonight.....

We were on our way to the grocery store this evening.  It was near 100 degrees out. There had been talk on the radio/tv news/newspapers, etc., about NOT leaving your dog locked in your car.

As we were entering the parking lot at Wegmans this evening, we saw just ahead of us, a local Animal Control truck and a county police car.  They ended up in the same aisle where were parking. As we walked by and before the county officials got out of their vehicles, we heard a dog barking in a closed car!  Can you believe it?  We watched as we walked toward the entrance to the store and the officers approached a late model small SUV where the barking was coming from.  Another family had stopped and was watching with us.  Since the authorities were there, we went ahead inside to do our shopping.

When we were leaving the store, the county officers were talking with a man and woman now in the car. There was no sign of the dog.  But the man was signing some paperwork the Animal Control officer had handed him. We all left about the same time.

We don't know if the Animal Control officer had custody of the dog.  But how could someone leave a dog locked in a car with the windows up and the motor off even for 5 minutes in this heat?  Some good Samaritan evidently called it in, thank heavens.

We were in complete shock.  This is not a back woods area.  It is an upscale area at an upscale shopping center!

Sorry for the rant....

Stay cool and be thankful there are good Samaritans everywhere!

Hi Minnie!

RANT AWAY!! Today is day 38 of at least 100 degrees or hotter here in Austin. Mom has been saying from day one she will call the police if she see's dogs or kids left unattended in a vehicle.

Hope the dog was taken away from the stupid people & is doing ok.

The news here too is constantly talking about pets and the heat. There is NO Excuse!

Sorry my rant too.

Minnie, see you at Camp Sunflower.

Hugs,
Suki

Money does not equal common sense or intelligence.
Mom keeps this window breaker thing in her truck. It's supposed to be for her, in case she ever needs to get out of her truck and the door won't open. But she would totally use it if she had to. It's criminal to keep a dog in a car in heat like this. And sometimes the police don't come fast enough. Mom's willing to bust a window and get in trouble to save a dog.
Thank goodness someone called in time.

Rant away! Some people do not have any common sense and leaving an animal in a locked car, widows rolled up in the heat of summer is absolutely stupid. Unforgivable.

Stand on your soapbox proudly! I don't think it matters where you are, some people were just born with the stupid stick applied to their heads!

We saw the same thing in our neighborhood!!! Mom got out of the car and was going to knock on the door of the house, but noticed the car was running, so she decided not to...but still! What if the car broke down and they didn't get out in time...just horrible!
Love,
Payton

We are with ya! Nothing makes us more mad than people not treating their pets right- like why did you get them in the first place?! I'm glad someone called them!

We hate when people drive too fast down the residential streets. In our neighborhood, there are no sideways and its dangerous for us dog walkers and kitties. Mom is always yelling and shaking her first at speeding cars.

Thank goodness someone saved the dog. Even a few minutes in a hot car can cause terrible health problems.

Unbelievable! That would have made me furious, but thank goodness Animal Control was there to act. You're right. Some people just shouldn't have pets.

Oh I totally agree! I've seen it too - and also in quite "posh" areas - it's disgusting how people play with their dogs' lives. I just don't understand why they need to take their dogs with them on hot days if they need to do chores & stuff - we always base an outing around Honey on a hot day or just leave her at home!

I really wish that people had to pass a test and have a licence to own dogs...

That makes me so upset! So ridiculous to treat an animal that way. If you can't be a responsible pet owner you do not deserve a pet!!
